It's late September and we really should be back at school

September was not just shit. September was M&S shit. September was Campbell's Condensed Cream of Shit soup, served with shit croutons and a buttered crusty turd, washed down with a nice cold glass of shit. Thank fuck it's over.

Given how bone-chillingly awful the performance at Rochdale was, it was maybe understandable that there were four changes to the starting XI v Salford. Kavanagh returning was a welcome change; I'm not sure that starting Temple was in anyone's interests, least of all those of Temple himself.

We did have the chance to take the lead early on, when Fondop nicked the ball off Wiredu, but his shot from outside the box was a relatively easy save for Norris. Unfortunately Salford then went straight up the other end and scored. Molyneux's cross from the right of the box missed everyone, Hudson uncharacteristically misjudged the flight of the ball, and it bounced into the net. And so it began.

We thought we'd equalised when Fondop tapped in after Kavanagh hit the post, but Kav was offside. It was not going to be our day, especially when Hudson - who has been excellent for us - was having a rare off day. He came rushing out to clear a long ball but got it all wrong and came out of the box, couldn't handle it and mistimed his run so he couldn't kick it either, and N'Mai chipped it over him into the empty net. It was a great finish, but fucking hell.

We pulled one back straight away to stay in the game. Appiah-Forson played a great ball into the box, and Kavanagh timed his run perfectly and hit it past the keeper. Game on?

It certainly would have been game on if Odoh had been sent off for hitting Scott-Morriss in the face, but the referee didn't see the incident off the ball and his assistant - who had a clear view of it - shat out of his responsibilities and shrugged his shoulders. Inexplicably, Odoh only got a yellow card. Hilariously, that wasn't the referee's worst mistake.

The second half ended in farce after the fourth official signalled four minutes stoppage time, and the referee blew his whistle after only two additional minutes. The goals were being brought onto the pitch for the kids' half-time game when his mistake was pointed out, and he had to call the players back out to play out the remaining two minutes. Yes, Sky Sports viewers, the standard of refereeing in League Two is always this good.

Drummond came on for Chilvers at the start of the second half, which raised some eyebrows as many felt that Chilvers was having a good game. Norburn floated a decent ball into the box early on, but Kavanagh's shot was just wide. That, unfortunately, was about as good as it got for us.

It was too easy for Wiredu to make his run into the box, and Hudson - poor lad - could have done better with his shot. Our misery was compounded with ten minutes to go. We apparently can't defend aerial balls anymore, so Garbutt's free kick set up Olowu for a free header. If the referee had ended the second half early, no-one would have complained.

Forgive me, but I could not bring myself to watch Mellon's post-match interview. I saw the "I'm not taking responsibility for a shape problem" quote and immediately put my head through a window.

I was barely following the match. Huge congratulations and all the love in the world to my brother and his new wife. I was sporadically checking for updates at their wedding reception at the pub where Liverpool FC was founded, in the shadow of Anfield, which felt very "have a look at what you could have won".

Thanks for not taking me to Anfield as a kid, dad. No, really, supporting a team that gets humped by a team that was playing Prescot Cables in the NPL five minutes ago is great fun.

Thank the ever-loving fuck for our women's team. Despite an injury crisis that left them unable to name a bench (including captain Abbey Rogers being out with concussion), the girls beat Winton Wanderers 3-1, with goals from Amelia Garvey-Robinson, Melody Seagrave and Chelsea Cook. Get the fuck in, girls. They take on Wilmslow Albion on Sunday at Little Wembley (2pm).

The men's team cannot hurt you today. They cannot ruin your weekend. They were never ruining ours. We booked our annual holiday to coincide with Northampton away, having been there to see our relegation to League Two and having no desire to ever go there again. And then it got postponed anyway.

Fulfilled a lifetime ambition while out in Lisbon. Beyond delighted.

Maybe a break is a good thing. It deffo is for us. Enjoy your weekend, comrades. The last time we lost four games on the bounce, we had a good run after. We can but hope. Here's hoping, comrades. KTMFF.
